Biography: Mike Murdock
Mr. Murdock started his career as a still photographer, graphic artist and videographer at the National Zoological Park. In 1981, he moved to the Mutual Broadcasting System as a photographer and Assistant AV Producer. While at Mutual, Mr. Murdock staged an exhibit of his photography and historical information about Mutual at Needham Harper Steers Ad Agency in Chicago. He currently does the photography for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) annual report and Convention exhibits.
In 1984, Mr. Murdock started Blue Moon Productions and began working for a variety of corporate, government, and broadcast clients. He was the Director of Photography for the Annenburg Documentary/Telecourse "Economics USA" which consisted of 26 half-hour segments and a 2 hour primetime special aired on PBS. He also worked as a sound recordist on the PBS documentaries: "The Speaker from Texas", “The AIDS Quilt”, and "For a Deaf Child" produced by KERA in Dallas Texas. In 1997, and 1999 he was Director of Photography, and Editor for 2 Civil War Documentaries, “Voices of Antietam” and “Ghosts of Cedar Creek”. For his work on “Voices of Antietam” Mr. Murdock was nominated for an EMMY for Editing and received an EMMY for Cinematography. In 2001 he was the videographer for a documentary on the inside works of Lockheed Martin’s Skunkworks and the PBS membership special on the “Canyon Ranch” Health spas. In 2003 he took over as Technical Director of the “Mountain Stage” music series, which airs on PBS. In 2004 he worked as a videographer and edited the one-hour documentary “Somebody Cares II The Seventh Generation” for the Boy’s and Girl’s clubs of America to air on PBS. Recently Mr. Murdock has been working with the American Red Cross Disaster Public Affairs Department documenting their work in the Gulf States after Hurricane Katrina. His corporate/government clients include the Department of Transportation, the American Bankers Association, the Smithsonian Institution, National Institutes of Health, The Montgomery County Public Schools, the FBI, FEMA, The American Trucking Associations, and AARP. Topics of his corporate and government productions include, raid planning for the DEA, the job of an avionic technician on the aircraft carrier USS America, railroad engineer training for Burlington Northern Railroad, road construction and maintenance for the FHWA, and incident management training for the IRS.
In addition, Mr. Murdock has worked extensively over the last 20 years doing medical productions. Starting in the early 1980’s doing medical photography at The National Zoological Park in Washington DC he did his first Cath Lab live cases at the Washington Hospital center in the mid-1980’s. In addition he worked doing yearly live case demonstrations at the Washington Adventist Hospital until 1996. Mr. Murdock worked on his first TCT meeting in the fall of 1996 and every year since. In 1999 he produced and directed the hospital portion of the TCT from the Washington Hospital Center and for the 2000 TCT he produced the live cases from Lenox Hill Hospital, which included daily cases from the Cath Labs as well as 2 days of Open Heart cases from the LHH OR’s. Mr. Murdock has also produced many live case transmissions for smaller meetings in Lenox Hill, MCVI, Miami, Georgetown Medical Center and The Washington Hospital Center.
